Whether it’s their handling, flexibility or value for money, there are many excellent reasons why you should buy a small RV. Their compact dimensions mean that they can accommodate two to four people, making them the perfect companions on city trips or camping adventures. With HYMER, the ability to customise the design means that you don’t need to make any compromises when it comes to comfort either. Our buyer’s guide will help you to make your choice.
You want to be as independent and flexible as possible when travelling.
Speed and manoeuvrability are important to you.
You like to explore the great outdoors and want to use a small RV as your base.
You want to use as little fuel as possible and save money to spend on your holiday.
You want to travel in an environmentally-friendly way.
What exactly is meant by a small RV or a mini RV? Many future motorhome owners ask themselves this question at the start of their search; fortunately, it’s an easy one to answer:
When it comes to Class A motorhome and Class B+ RV models, a small RV is considered to be a vehicle that does not exceed around 6.5 to 7 metres in length. The threshold is a little lower for camper vans, which are smaller than other motorhomes anyway. For those who want to buy a small RV, vehicles under 6 metres in length are what you’re looking for.
Note: The length and width of small RVs will depend on the layout of the vehicle in question. Even within a model range, individual vehicles may therefore have different lengths and widths. You can find more information in our overview of all HYMER motorhomes. |
Small RVs can usually accommodate two to a maximum of four people. With clever use of the space and the appropriate equipment, it’s therefore entirely possible for a small family to travel in comfort in a compact camper van or motorhome. Small RVs with pop-top roofs, for example, are an interesting solution in these situations. However, small RVs are especially popular for two people, such as couples or friends.
One of the factors that may also influence your decision to buy a small RV is cost. Small RVs and small motorhomes are generally cheaper to purchase than larger models. What’s more, when it comes to parking fees and tolls as well as at camping grounds, the additional charges are not as high as they are for large motorhomes, for example.
Important: Despite the lower purchase costs, smaller vehicles are still a valuable asset. You can find tips on protecting your vehicle against burglary and theft in our illustrated guide to motorhome safety. |
Then, in the next step, convince yourself firsthand! Arrange a test drive to get to know (and love) your favorite in action.
When deciding which motorhome to buy, you obviously also need to know what the disadvantages of a small RV might be. Both small panel vans and small Class B+ RVs have less interior space than large Class A motorhomes, for example. The choice of optional extras is therefore different as well.
However, this doesn’t mean that a small RV can’t have a lot to offer inside. You don’t have to miss out on a kitchen or bathroom with this option either, as we will illustrate further below. As a result, a surprising amount of comfort can be enjoyed, even in a small RV.
Are you looking for a compact motorhome for two people or your small family? If you are, then we have just what you’re looking: HYMER offers both Class A motorhomes and Class B+ RVs as well as camper vans, which are said to be nice and small, as well as compact.
By the way: Our range of models built on a Fiat chassis includes a very small camper van. If you’re looking for a motorhome up to 5.5 metres in length, the HYMER Ayers Rock is perfect for you. Needless to say, even our smallest camper van is equipped with a toilet and shower. |
There will be lots of questions you need to answer to find your perfect motorhome. This is especially true regarding the number of people that will be joining you on your trips. Are you looking for a motorhome for one person, or do you need two to four seats and berths? Will you be travelling with dogs? In terms of storage space, you also need to think about larger items of luggage, such as skis, bikes or climbing gear. The layout you choose should accommodate these things and any future plans you might have.
Is your dream a small RV with a toilet, shower and an area for cooking? We understand this only too well, and that’s why you won’t have to miss out on a kitchen or bathroom, even in the smallest HYMER models! But that’s not all – you can simply choose the layout that suits your needs from our wide variety of Fiat and Mercedes motorhomes. If you do, then the interior might look something like this:
Even our camper vans feature a fully-fledged kitchen with ample storage space and a compact hob. The kitchens of our HYMER Fiat camper van models are equipped with an integrated two-burner gas hob, an efficient compressor refrigerator and a practical sink.
You can neatly cover the cooker / sink combination with a stylish glass panel, while multifunctional rails help to keep your cooking utensils organised. There is also a tablet holder, so you can always keep an eye on your recipes.
And if you need even more room, an extension board on the kitchen unit gives you additional storage space. Perfect for small snacks and your morning coffee!
When travelling in our HYMER Free S Campus model, you can start your morning routine in the practical compact bathroom. The bathroom has a door and is conveniently equipped with a bench toilet, washbasin and lots of shelves to accommodate all of your things. The large mirror allows you to quickly check that your hair and clothes are perfect. The hinged window allows daylight and fresh air to flood inside.
The fixed washbasin features a pull-out shower fitting, which can even be used as an external shower thanks to the suction cup. If you prefer to shower indoors, the shower tray with an all-round drainage channel means that you can get clean without having to worry.
Elastic straps on the shelves ensure that your shampoo bottles, soap and cosmetics remain securely in place while driving.
