Which Camper Van Suits Me?

  • Even on holiday, it's essential that everyone gets a good night's sleep. Camper vans without pop-up roofs, like the ERIBA Car, are well-suited for two adults. The rear bed provides ample space, even for taller individuals.

The ERIBA Car is also a great fit for families who like to stay close together at night. However, larger families or travel groups will need more space. In this case, vans with a pop-up roof or a larger caravan might be a better option.

  • The ERIBA Car is a compact camper van based on the reliable VW Crafter. In terms of exterior dimensions, the differences between various camper vans are often not significant – they usually don't exceed six meters in length. Additionally, camper vans generally weigh less than 3.5 tons.

What's more important is the interior layout and design. The layout determines how much storage space and freedom of movement you will have. The ERIBA Car scores with pull-out, foldable, and extendable elements, ensuring functionality without sacrificing comfort.

  • Beyond the basics like weight, dimensions, and sleeping spaces, your personal preferences and needs play a crucial role. After all, your camper van should be more than just a mode of transport – it should feel like home.

Match the features and equipment to your comfort needs on the road. In the ERIBA Car, for example, these might include pleated front blinds, a parking assist system, or the Smart Battery System for greater self-sufficiency and autonomy.

Your travel habits also influence which camper van is right for you. If you enjoy cold-weather trips, winterized models with good insulation and heating are the best fit. The ERIBA Car also shines in this area, thanks to the optional winter package that enhances its cold-weather capabilities.

Camper Van or Caravan: The Key Differences

Even at first glance, you can tell that camper vans and caravans significantly differ in appearance. But what other individual advantages and disadvantages can help you decide between the two vehicle types?

One major difference is that camper vans do not rely on an additional towing vehicle. This means more spontaneity and mobility than with a caravan, as you can set off immediately and have everything with you.

If you plan to make many overnight stays in various locations without the hassle of hitching and unhitching a trailer, a camper van might be the right choice for you. Additionally, due to its car-like dimensions, a camper van makes it easier to navigate city traffic and find a suitable parking spot.

However, if you prefer to stay in one place for an extended period, such as a campsite, a caravan could be the better option. You can use your towing vehicle for shorter trips around the area while enjoying the more spacious living area that a caravan offers for living, cooking, and sleeping compared to a camper van.

You can typically drive a camper van with a standard driver’s license, as long as the vehicle’s permissible total weight stays under 3.5 tons. This can be an important factor in your purchase decision, as heavier RVs or camper vans might require a different license. In Germany it is an extension called B96 or BE, while in the UK it is a C1 entitlement on your license. Always check your destinations’ transportation laws regarding maximum vehicle weight and international drivers’ licenses.

The Advantages of Travel in a Camper Van

The compact dimensions combined with a versatile interior often make the camper van the winning choice. It is more maneuverable in traffic and offers seating for up to four people. The cozy sleeping area in the ERIBA Car accommodates two people, while the seating group can be converted into an additional sleeping space.

The small exterior dimensions and relatively low weight, compared to larger motorhomes, also provide advantages in the following areas:

  • Standard vehicle fees on ferries and motorail
  • Lower toll costs (compared to heavier vehicles)
  • Parking spot availability
  • Fuel consumption

Meanwhile, the smart interior design of the ERIBA Car maximizes space, with multifunctional furniture and intelligent storage solutions ensuring a high level of living comfort, even given the limited space.
